Frontera Produce Doubles Production of Texas Onions
EDINBURG -- March 2, 2009
EDINBURG, TX – (March 2, 2009) - Frontera Produce, LTD, a vertically integrated grower, packer and shipper of fresh produce in South Texas, announces today that the company will harvest and pack the largest volume of onions to be shipped out of the Rio Grande Valley in the company’s sixteen year history.
According to estimates from the South Texas Onion Committee, Frontera Produce will represent in excess of 10% of the total acreage of onions currently in production in the Lower Valley and Coastal Bend area of the Rio Grande Valley. As the largest onion shipper from this region, Frontera Produce is positioned with the ability to provide more customized programs that will ultimately deliver the quality and value that consumers are depending on.
“Times are tough for our consumers. At Frontera we are fortunate because the commodities that we grow are the staples that homes across America consume on a daily basis, particularly onions,” said Will Steele, President and CEO. “As a large producer of Texas grown onions, we are in a position to provide our customers with custom solutions that will ultimately help them increase their revenue, while keeping food on the table at the consumer level simply because of the affordability of our products. We are willing and able to provide merchandising and custom packaging options for our Texas grown onions, in order to make this a win-win scenario for everyone involved.”
Frontera Produce provides a year-round supply of yellow, white and red onions grown in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Mexico. Frontera Produce will exhibit in booth #808 at Southern Exposure 2009 taking place at the Tampa Bay Convention Center in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, March 7, 2009.
